Kerala Trip Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive in Cochin
On arrival at Cochin Airport you will be met by our representative and transferred to your Cochin Homestay. Off the many Homestays in Kochi we have sorted those as accommodation in Kochi that are closest to the sightseeing spots, away from the hustle and bustle of the city; have the perfect hosts; and undoubtedly deliver quality service.
Evening visit the Kerala Kathakali Centre to watch a Kathakali dance performance - a classic dance drama where you’ll see how a story unfolds by dance, music, song and strangest of all, facial movements that convey the emotions and dialogue. It is a mixture of calm and rhythmic movements; frenetic drumming that leads to a dramatic climax but throughout colorful and elaborate.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Cochin
Cochin: Formation of Cochin happened with the amalgamation of smaller villages across the southwestern coast of Kerala. It has a mix of the Dutch, Portuguese, British and the Jewish influences that make this city unique.
Go on a sightseeing tour of Cochin to explore its rich history and heritage accompanied with a Cochin Tour Guide. Visit the Jewish synagogue at Matanchery and walk through the old Jewish town; take a walking tour of old Fort Kochi and visit the important monuments including Dutch Palace, St. Francis Church (India’s oldest) and Santa Cruz Basilica and explore the streets on foot. Also see the famous Chinese fishing nets in action.

Day 03: Cochin to Kannur Train (6 hrs. journey)
Board an early morning or overnight train to North of Kerala to a small fishing village by the beach in Kannur.On arrival check-into your homestay in Kannur, the location is calm and beautiful with miles of plam fringed beaches - that has no traffic or tourists but only local fishermen and children playing by the Arabian Sea. Afternoon relax by the beach, take a swim or walk around this place.

Day 04: Relax at the House by Kannur Beach
During the day you could make a visit to the St Angelo's Fort and the Muzhappilangad Drive-in beach. You might be lucky to watch ‘Theyyam’ - a traditional dance of Kerala going on at a local temple or watch a performance of the ancient martial art - ‘Kalari’.
Enjoy the stunning beach and home-cooked meals in this beautiful and un-spoilt part of Kerala.

Day 05: Drive from Kannur to Wayanad (Distance 120kms. & 3hrs.journey)
This morning drive from Kannur to Wayanad, a quaint hill-station in north western Kerala with immense beauty and variety of wildlife & fauna. Drive to a wonderful retreat on a coffee and caoutchouc plantation - your Homestay in Wayanad. Your stay here is arranged in a beautiful bamboo cottage built by the local craftsmen in a traditional manner with the balconies overlooking the coffee plantation. Enjoy the lovely home grown meals served and take a tour of the homestay and its amazing plantations.

Day 06: Tour of Wayanad
Enjoy the day exploring Wayanad on a moderate biking tour passing through the famous spice town, paddy fields, tribal settlements at an old dilapidated forest and finally reaching the famed Kabini River crossing it over on bamboo boats to get to Kuruva Islands. Spend time exploring the islands and dive into the river for a swim. Evening drive back to your Waynad Homestay

Day 07: Drive Wayanad to Calicut (Distance 90kms & 2.5hrs journey)
Drive 3hrs. south to Calicut/Kozhikode to reach an ancestral house almost 150yrs old that belonged to the royal family of Kadathanad. It has now been beautifully restored and made architecturally intriguing. The homestay whose owners are Ayurvedic doctors offer treatments of healthcare in accordance with the traditional life sciences of Ayurveda in Kerala. Afternoon take a walk to the vibrant spice market, local temples and the Kerala Martial Arts Club

Day 08: Treat yourself to Kerala Ayurveda
Wake up to an early morning session of Yoga followed by an optional Massage treatment to refresh your body. Afternoon drive to Kappad Beach where Vasco De Gama first set foot on the Indian soil and later enjoy the sunsets view on the walkways at Beypore port. A great opportunity to click some memorable shots on your camera

Day 09: Drive from Calicut to Palakkad (Distance 130kms & 3hrs. journey)
Drive further south to Palakad for your stay at a beautiful heritage home almost 3 centuries old. It’s an amazing opportunity for you to learn more about the culture and people in Kerala, this place is like a cultural center offering you glimpses of history of Kerala and India, its society, architecture, performing arts and cuisine. Go on a tour of this Palakkad Homestay

Day 10: Learn about Kerala Culture, Tradition and its people
During the day, go on tour of the local village accompanied with your host. Make a visit to a museum where you’ll find old Kathakali headgear and other artifacts on display; also visit some local weavers who are specialized in making this headgear. You may be fortunate to experience an authentic Kathakali performance and watch the Hindu ritual ‘Kalam Ezhuthi Pattu’ which includes the drawing of goddess Kali, a deity in natural colors.
At evening watch the sun set over the Ghats with the sound of music from the temple besides the river.

Day 11: Drive from Palakkad to Pala (Distance 180kms. & 5hrs.journey)
Drive early morning from Palakkad into the Western Ghat mountain range, to the town of Pala. Your accommodation here is arranged at a family Kerala Homestay set amidst sylvan surroundings where you can wander around spice gardens, mountain streams and rubber plantations. Afternoon take a guided tour of the Plantation or walk through the Spice Garden
Enjoy home-cooked Kerala meals prepared by your hosts, with pretty much all the ingredients from their family land or grown nearby.

Day 12: Day to relax
Enjoy full day to explore the surroundings around the property. See the elephants at work and take a ride on them. Walk down to the rock pool for a refreshing swim. Visit a nearby Christian Ashram and watch life in this beautiful hill district.

Day 13: Drive from Pala to Kumarakom House boat Jetty
After breakfast, drive to Kumarakom to board the House boat at Kumarakom for a Backwater Cruise. The experience is a beautiful one as it takes you through lagoons, rivers and lakes of Central Kerala. You will see how people live & work along the shores as your ride from one island to the other. Enjoy the Kerala Cuisine served on-board along with the ride. Overnight stay in Kerala Houseboat

Day 14: Alleppey Homestay
After the early morning ride through the lake your houseboat will be docked close to your Homestay at Alappuzha. Rest of the ride can be optionally arranged on a canoe. Your Stay at Alleppey is at an antique wooden house in a remote village set in the middle of the backwaters. From the veranda of your home follow the life along the waterfront, walk across the paddy fields - and just ask to be canoed across the river. Enjoy the exemplary hospitality of your hosts during your stay.

Day 15: Tour of Alleppey
After breakfast, go a on a tour of Alleppey on a tuk-tuk or bicycle to the local church, a school and a local coconut processing center. After lunch, try your hand at fishing.

Day 16: Drive from Alleppey to Cochin (Distance 90kms and 2hrs. journey)

Your Kerela Holidays concludes with a drop to the Cochin airport for your flight home or to another destination in India.
